McCrory Appoints Shanahan as State’s Secretary of Public Safety

RALEIGH, N.C. – Governor-elect Pat McCrory named Raleigh attorney Kieran Shanahan of Shanahan Law Group, PLLC, to the post of Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. Shanahan is a former federal prosecutor and four-term Raleigh City Councilor. He has been named one of the “Top 100 Lawyers” in America by the National Trial Lawyers, is a peer selected “Best Lawyers in America” honoree, and has the highest possible rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell.

According to Governor-elect McCrory, Shanahan will supervise the ongoing consolidation of the Department of Public Safety. McCrory added that one of Shanahan’s major priorities would be ensuring the safety of North Carolina’s schools.

McCrory stated that he chose Shanahan to be the head of this department because Shanahan is “one of the smartest” and “most dynamic” individuals he has met, and that Shanahan is an “advocate for law enforcement”.

Shanahan’s goals include making safety within our state’s schools a top priority and ensuring that North Carolina’s emergency management team is prepared to act upon immediate notice.
Brandon Neuman, partner with Shanahan Law Group, said that the firm was proud of Shanahan’s decision to join Governor-elect McCrory’s administration.

“Kieran’s decision to accept this position as Secretary of the Department of Public Safety is a great example of his passion for public service,” added Neuman. “He has many challenges ahead, but we know firsthand how Kieran can find practical solutions to almost any complex problem.” Neuman said that while Shanahan is going to devote his time and energy to his role as Secretary of the Department of Public Safety, the firm will continue to serve its clients, both large and small, throughout the state.
